Rhode Island Red

The Rhode Island Red is an excellent dual-purpose bird, developed in the first half of the nineteenth century in Rhode Island and Massachusetts. Selections were made for egg numbers and they are a prolific layer and used in the breeding of many commercial layers.

They are an active, hardy and friendly bird which can lay up to 250 large light brown eggs a year and also make sizeable table birds.
